Is your hair flat?!

Here’s a few things to ask yourself:

Is your hair simply too long?
Gravity is the culprit here and it's amazing how a tiny trim can do wonders! Hair can grow faster one month than others and the longer the hair gets the flatter it lays…

Or is your color grown out?
Even a highlight can texturize the roots enough to give your hair some extra body and a nice boost at the roots.

Are you applying your styling products at the roots and distributing the product evenly throughout your hair?
If you apply gel or mousse only to the ends of your hair this can weigh your hair down and cause the droops.

Are you using all the products you really need to be using?

We used to rely on a perm to give us the body we wanted but today's new styles and looks are all about the products. So to get your hair to do what I want it to do when I style your hair I use 3 products (actually 5 if you count the shampoo and conditioner).

·I use an up-lifting foam when the hair is still wet.
•Then I apply a molding paste to get the "piecey" look of todays styles. Go ahead and ask your stylist to teach you how to apply amolding paste right because if you get too much you’ll hate it, but when you figure out how to apply it right then it’s a product that you will never live without again!
·Last I spray the hair with hairspray to hold the finished style.

A note about professional product versus grocery store product.

If you're using grocery store brand products but your hair is not styling right, your colors are not shiny and fade real fast, if you have trouble with your perms taking and your hair is dull and just not pretty then do guy some professional products. They really are better quality and you really are worth it!
But if your hair is super and you have no troubles then by all means use the cheaper products – hey if you use bar soap and you have great hair then geeze, use bar soap!

Be aware that the professional products you see in the drug and grocery stores are diverted, they are not less expensive and can be contaminated! Arggg! Not good! So buy your supplies at your favorite salon support them and be assured the products you’re getting are on the up and up…

My Pandoras Box Journal Kit

This month the "Green Pepper Press" Street Team is about doing something for yourself that will enable you to be a better journaler.....

This pretty little Crusade nO.17 box below is a link to Michelle Wards Street Team Page and it's there that you can read all about what the "GPP Street Team" is all about.

I don't have a journal. I really want to get one started but feel it would be just another "can of worms" for me to get into! I do have a traveling art kit that I carry every day... it's my purse! In the fold out zipper part I have my drivers license, credit cards, cash, etc. and in the main part I have my arty stuff! I have scissors to cut out stuff from magazines. We have tons of magazines at work that I secretly cut up and I have a stash of magazines in my car for "just incase" situations when I have to wait for John or one of the kids. I have blank ATC cards ready to doodle on, pens, pencil eraser and a small drawing pad.

What I'm realizing here is that I don't have to start a journal, because I already have the start of what could be a great journal. I could just go back and write some stuff on the pages I've already doodled on.! hum... Great thought!

This is a close up of the sketch in my traveling art kit... I was sitting in the car waiting for John while he was in Best Buy. This was a real photo of a girl on the cover of one of the magazines in my car...

Have a great hair day! Becci

Sometimes change isn't necessary

One of the number one things that I read in the hairdressing trade magazines about building a clientele is that a good stylist should always stay on top of the newest hair trends and styles. A good stylist should recommend a new hairstyle every time the client comes into the salon. This is supposed to keep the client from getting board with the same old hair cut. If I don't recommend new ideas then the client will get board with me and will go someplace else to get the satisfaction she is searching for. I've got loyal clients who have been coming to me for years and a lot of them are still having me cut their hair exactly the same as we did from the beginning and I’m proud to say I have had most of my clientele for 10 to 28 years - I'm not kidding! Yes, we do talk about new trends that are going on in the hair world and they like that but they come to me because they are happy with their hair, they know how to style it, they can depend on it not taking too much time to fix and they know it will look good. They love that they can depend on me to give them the exact (or nearly exact) cut they had their last visit and every visit before that! I can change them in a heart beat but if change isn’t what they want then that's when upset happens and I will lose that client! I agree that change is not all it's cut out to be. Keeping some thing the same is a good thing when it's out of choice and not out of fear. That's when stagnation happens. And stagnation is not a good thing… now is it?!

I'd love to hear a few thoughts about what you expect from your hairdresser...
Send me a comment any time. :-)
This is one happy lady...her hair style is going 13 years strong!

Thinking back on Art & Soul Portland - last October

I was so excited to go to Portland to Art & Soul! I was finally going to take some of the classes I had only read about and meet some of the artists I’ve admired in books and magazines over the years! YES! I was going to make all kinds of neat art and have tons of stuff to share…Well, I didn’t get hardly anything done at all! For example on the first day I got to my class super ready with all kinds of extra goodies that I’d brought along “just in case I needed them”. Some how after I barely got started class was over! The whole day flew by and I didn't come close to finishing my project! I listened to Angela give some inspiring thoughts and the details of the “In Your House” project we were going to make. I talked and talked - then I painted a bit, then I talked some more. Then I wondered around to see the other art in the room and then and then I talked some more! Out of the 7 pages (14 altogether if we did both sides) I got 2½ of them finished! What the hell happened to the day! Next time I go to a conference like Art & Soul I’m going to go knowing I’m not going to go make a bunch of arty stuff but I’m going to go meet people and talk! Oh yea, and all the extra goodies I brought didn’t get used! I realized I lugged that suitcase for no reason yet also knowing full well that I’ll do it again because what if I did need them…
These are the 2 1/2 pages I got started for my "In This House" class given by Angela Cartwright, who by the way is a living doll!

I'll definitely get back into the halloween spirit next October and will get a few more pages finished...
